Fly Like Paper

I recently watched PBS’s Independent Lens:  Between The Folds.  It’s a fascinating documentary about origami.  One of the subjects in the film makes the observation that folding is a fundamental design element for everything from your shirt collar to your eyelids.  Amazing how complex structures can be created from such an elementary action.  The doc had me searching out more paper sculptures and I found some truly beautiful works of art.

These creations fashioned by Anna Wili are truly imbued with the energy of the creatures they represent

Marie Antoinette eat your heart out.  Love these gorgeous paper wigs from Amy Flurry and Nikki Salk from Paper Cut Project.

Richard Sweeney’s modular paper sculptures make geometry look like fun . . . for him.

Home Again, Home Again, Market Is Done

As promised I have your Atlanta Gift Show report.  Lots of fun color and vintage inspired goodies.  Feeling a lot of the eclectic and collected.

And We’re Back

These tear sheets from the Rug Company are great examples of the mix of modern and vintage we were on the hunt to find yesterday.

Adorable finds from yesterday’s search.

Would be so cute as push pins in a child’s pin up space.

And We’re Off

Off searching for wonderful accessories.  Will hopefully have great things to report!

Inspired Fashion

Always thinking about how fashion translates to interiors.  Love this for room palette inspiration.

Navy and orange.  Mmmmm.  And we just loved the fun sashes around the ankles.

A Patriotic Pallet

Are you longing to decorate for Independence Day, but worry the color pallet will operate independent of your existing interior?  These pieces take the stars and stripes, a highly recognizable graphic, and re-contextualize through variation of color and cropping. Just the thing to celebrate and stay within your own color bounderies.

From Charlotte Casadejus, made from vintage French linens.  They also have a union jack for all you anglophiles.

.

Rather than muting the tones, this Jimmie Martin sofa has just been tweaked a bit to fit another pallet.  I love the idea of modifying the hues to evoke a sense of play.  The stars and stripes have such a great graphic quality they would certainly survive turning the color dial a bit.

How cute are these? Karen Hilton Designs

.Ok so these are not flags associated with any nation, but they were too cute not slide into a post about flags.

.
And while we’re decorating with flags…one of our favorite pieces available from the furniture section of the Lisa Sherry Interieurs Online Boutique.

Of course, there’s something to be said for the pure and simple approach…  My bike all ready for a morning ride on the beach.  Enjoy your holiday!

Make A Run(ner) For It

You may think a stair runner is fusty (that’s right, I used fusty) or formal or antiquated, but we’d like the following images to tread on that notion.

This eclectic mix of rugs pieced together is a studio fav for the week.

.

Stairs are an architectural element we often overlook but they have so much potential.  Vertical stripes are a great way to emphasize stairs .  Love the neutral ground and one judicious gesture of dynamic color.

.

For the more color shy.  This single vertical strip serves to emphasize height and the sculptural quality of your stairs as well.

.
Horizontal stripes de-emphasize the height of the stairs to create a more intimate feel.

.

Or for a real twist, try the anti-runner.  Paint out the stairs and leave the strip where a runner would be natural.

A Bold Brush

One of our newest clients just bought a lovely old home with a patchwork of new and original flooring on the first floor.  The re-model will completely open up the spaces to each other, consequently exposing this mixed mash of old and new.  And while we must admit we are constantly going on about “the mix”, we seem to have found one of the few instances where the mix is so not working.  Our Solution to unify the variety of old and new wood flooring?  PAINT IT!  So while we’re on the subject of painted floors here are some more ideas to inspire.I know we’ve used this image before, but we can’t help it.  So much is right with this space.
On the opposite end of the spectrum these more graphic paint jobs get us excited too.

Great pattern and inspired color for a small space like a vestibule or powder room.

One of our signature PRINCIPES or principles…

Telephone, Text, and Email  (but send a lovely letter once in a while)

Loving these artfully hand letterpressed cards from Sideshow Press.  Great with a gift or as one.

We’re Back!

So we’ve been away from our digital baby for a while, one reason Kathryn has been tending to her real baby!  Meet little Cooper.

And as the seasons have changed so has business.  We are busier than ever.  As well as completing a number of projects, we’re currently working with clients in Manhattan , Charlotte, Raleigh, Minneapolis, and hosting our EXterieur event.

Our Summer resolution – have fun of course!  To kick off Summer we thought a post with less words and more play was in order.  So scroll on for some tear sheets we think sing of Summer fun.

Our Summer mantra – Don’t forget to play!

Gear Up and Snuggle Up: Indoor Picnic Supplies

Don’t forget the soft throws when you’re picnicking by the fire.  All are available at the Lisa Sherry Boutique.  We have one for every color palette and every budget too!  We are especially in love with the Horse Head throw.  It’s actually two throws sewn together and bordered by deerskin suede.  Snuggle up!

March is the month of transition and these glasses perform double… triple… multiple functions.  Perfect for a summer lemonade or a red wine by the fire.  See our recipe for Pernod and Mineral Water for a lovely Mediterranean inspired drink.  And don’t forget the straws great for juices or champagne drinks.  Get them all, even the straws, at the Lisa Sherry Interieurs Boutique.

The Hamptons

We were in NY this week for the gift show and ran into our friends Rick and Willie owners of Patina in Minneapolis.  We also took a side trip to visit a friend in the Hamptons.  Sum it up-  glorious walk along the beach, indulged in great design, wonderful food, and great friends.  Check out our Facebook to see more of the trip!

Show You Have Heart (With Snail Mail)

FEB objects of dsr-flatten

Christmas is not the only holiday worthy of a greeting card. Don’t miss the opportunity to reach out to people you love this Valentine’s Day with a heartfelt message. We love Red Stamp’s offerings (redstamp.com). You can actually customize a VD card for as little as .96 cents. Their site is so easy to use (you don’t have to be a graphic designer to figure it out). While we totally support emailing, blogging, tweeting and the like, there’s nothing like a lovely card in the mail to let someone know they’re special.

Retail Re-Vamp

We’ve been busy searching high and low to nab unique finds for our retail locations.  Below is just a taste.  Go to our Facebook photo album to see more.  Of course, for you Charlotte locals see the great finds in person at Interiors Marketplace located in Myer’s Park.  For those of you farther flung check out the current offerings at our online boutique.IMG_9203

From Decking the Halls to Climbing the Walls

I’ve taken down the holiday decorations and things seem a bit bare.  The holidays have passed, but the winter weather is still upon us.  It’s the perfect time to cozy up with a project; editing that collection of adored objects you just can’t live without yet never find a spot to show case.  If this sounds a bit overwhelming the help of a great designer can lend an objective eye and ultimately create a cohesive display.  In the studio we just love the challenge posed by working-in our clients’ favorite things.

One object we all tend to collect are those inspirational pieces of art.  We all have sentimental family sketches or precious originals passed from generation to generation.  Whether museum worthy or taken from a calendar we just love to mix a variety of pieces.  With creative care each piece can be unique right down to the frame.
