From Decking the Halls to Climbing the Walls
I’ve taken down the holiday decorations and things seem a bit bare. The holidays have passed, but the winter weather is still upon us. It’s the perfect time to cozy up with a project; editing that collection of adored objects you just can’t live without yet never find a spot to show case. If this sounds a bit overwhelming the help of a great designer can lend an objective eye and ultimately create a cohesive display. In the studio we just love the challenge posed by working-in our clients’ favorite things.

One object we all tend to collect are those inspirational pieces of art. We all have sentimental family sketches or precious originals passed from generation to generation. Whether museum worthy or taken from a calendar we just love to mix a variety of pieces. With creative care each piece can be unique right down to the frame.

Collections can be continually changing. A loose grid organizes this temporary inspiration wall. The simple act of installing and adding to an inspiration wall can be a daily meditation on goals.
Here subject matter provides the relationship with this collection of “Nudes Descending a Stair Case”. Meanwhile, hanging the works in loose columns acts as another organizing element.
Collections don’t have to remain along walls. I know we’ve seen this for years, but I still marvel at the innovation of overlapping art onto a book case.

Word truly becomes art in this creative installation.
Here the standard display case is certainly less than traditional. We love this over the top pair of stacked cases. We’re all suckers for a shell collection, but it can get old. Forget the bowl and go for an over the top terrarium constructed from sea life.
Frugal Abundance
Holiday decorations are all about the cup running over. We ward off the spectre of lean and dark times with a celebration of abundance and light. However, we know this season Santa seams a bit slim for many so here’s some ideas to make relatively inexpensive materials affect a more luxe appearance.

The image above inspired the installation in my own living room (following). A great example of grouping inexpensive items to inspire abundance.

Found objects can even be incorporated into holiday cheer. Simple ribbon tied to a twig inspired us to create our own grand statement in the studio using this great branch and simply folded ornaments from news paper.

From my own garden. No need to spend a bundle on topiary. When seasonally sensitive plants are brought inside to weather the winter, I like to use simply arranged clippings to take their place.
What’s The Story?
In the studio we are fond of saying it’s all about the mix. Themes can serve a commercial space well, but no one wants to live in a theme park. There is delight in a home full of objects that represent the lives of the inhabitants and those of their loved ones. We love to hear the story behind pieces. The story inspires us to find ways to create a cohesive environment combining pieces from a variety of periods and evocative of a range of styles. Here’s some more designs getting the mix just right…
Antique wedge through tenon table paired with mid-century modern Tulip Chairs. Two takes on the dynamic hour glass shape.
Gustavian upholstered chairs and the ornate chandelier make an unexpected, yet appropriate pairing with the trophy wall.
This blend of pieces makes us think of the influence African art had on France and the art world during the opening of the last century. Think Matisse or Picasso’s studio during his African Period.
Music of the Spheres
Scholars and Astronomers once believed the universe was comprised of a series of perfect spheres nestled one inside the next, rotating independently. The sound they made as they moved was termed music of the spheres. We still think spheres bring harmony to the environment… interior and exterior.
Geometric shapes serve as the perfect jewel in an organic setting. As winter approaches architectural elements like these sand stone orbs add interest to an increasingly sparse landscape.
Love the contrast of organic material and simple geometry in these pendants.
Of course the artful application of topiary perfectly expresses the beauty of a delightfully imperfect geometry.

Flowers, Flowers, Flowers. They can be tough. We love these arrangements for inspiration. Closely cropped and a limited color palette consisting of greens and whites are always winners, they never look overdone and work perfectly for any occasion, no matter the season or level of festivity.

A great organic bowl or pot can help vamp up any arrangement.
TIP: for your next great outdoor dinner- place several little jars throughout the table at random and fill with clusters of herbs, greenery and white or cream flowers.

Look what we did last week…

Walking through the front door you notice the calming color scheme that is evident throughout the entire store. We loved seeing that huge landscape as soon as you walk in! Gorgeous!

It all starts to fall into place as our staff worked hard to make it happen!

And finally! The completed room filled with accessories and furniture:

…And for those curious about who we are, we left some of the recent magazine articles featuring Lisa Sherry Interieurs on the cocktail table, full of images, that give unfamiliar guests an idea of our style.

A Well Designed Showroom.
This past fall market we were asked by Penthouse Furniture to design and accessorize their showroom in Innerhall. The result included a stunning white branch with newspaper paper cranes fluttering about from its branches, an organic, custom drum lamp hanging above a pedestal table, and graphic stacks of books on shelves and strewn across the entry table. This very cool, bohemian and eclectic look drew admiring glances from those passing by.

Inspirational Art
Lisa Sherry Interieurs’ artist and designer Jordan McDermott painted custom art for the Verellen showroom at Fall Market this year. All of the art is one of a kind and custom designed for each individual client. If you are interested in purchasing please contact us.

A Market Preview.
One of the great advantages of having one of our offices in High Point, NC is that we have amazing resources at our fingertips. Since we are surrounded by all the furniture showrooms on a day to day basis we become very familiar with our favorite ones. It seems as if our economy is climbing, this years market was bustling and full of inspiration and beautiful designs perfectly displayed across hundreds and thousands of showrooms. Below are some of our favorites: enjoy!

Its not hard to see why this is one of our favorite showrooms at market…

The large scale of the light fixtures creates drama and give a cozy feel to this little “lounging nook” in the showroom.

Love the scale of the horse!

We love love love the stacks of books on the stairs (look at the left)

Our favorite drapes at market!

Natural and organic woods are becoming a trend.Their earthy quality really shines when juxtaposed with a simple little linen slipper chair, a stainless steel accessory, or a glass vase. Remember, its all about the mix! Contrasting materials make for a more interesting composition.
What a nice surprise!
As we were walking through Neal Johnson and Bourgeoise 3D’s showroom in Innerhall, this magazine cover caught our eye. It’s our featured article on the cover of Charlotte’s Home and Garden magazine! Bourgeoise 3D and Neal are based out of Charlotte and their line offers a great mix of newly interpreted case pieces and beautiful antiques.

One of the popular items seen at market this fall were gypsy tents, posted outside of a number of buildings all around market. We picked up a flyer for “The Martyn House” and discovered that these tents are transformed into guest rooms at this little resort in Ellijay, GA

Welcome to your luxurious life!
Inspiration can come from anything… and anywhere. There you are, walking down the street in a mad morning rush to the office and bam! without warning that ruff and tumble wood door you always see for sale and pass every day somehow appears to you at that moment as inspiration for that cocktail table you have been pining for for your living room. The perfect, wood-worn, distressed wood top, and you never would have thought of it before.

All About the Mix
There is something beautiful about the “mix.” When the combination of old and new, modern and traditional form an eclectic feel and the room no longer has a “style” but instead a unity, a meshing, so now- it is fresh, unseen and surprising. Unpredictable style is the best of them all, never think in a box and remember “there are no rules to good design, only the ones you break.”
