Love Of Flags Not Flagging

The fireworks are over and just their wrappers remain… in shreds strewn all over the yard.  But we’re like that neighbor that keeps setting off the leftover firecrackers for a couple more days!  We just can’t get enough of the summer fun the holiday imbues, so here’s one more spark.

A Patriotic Pallet

Are you longing to decorate for Independence Day, but worry the color pallet will operate independent of your existing interior?  These pieces take the stars and stripes, a highly recognizable graphic, and re-contextualize through variation of color and cropping. Just the thing to celebrate and stay within your own color bounderies.

From Charlotte Casadejus, made from vintage French linens.  They also have a union jack for all you anglophiles.

.

Rather than muting the tones, this Jimmie Martin sofa has just been tweaked a bit to fit another pallet.  I love the idea of modifying the hues to evoke a sense of play.  The stars and stripes have such a great graphic quality they would certainly survive turning the color dial a bit.

.

How cute are these? Karen Hilton Designs

.Ok so these are not flags associated with any nation, but they were too cute not slide into a post about flags.

.
And while we’re decorating with flags…one of our favorite pieces available from the furniture section of the Lisa Sherry Interieurs Online Boutique.

.

Of course, there’s something to be said for the pure and simple approach…  My bike all ready for a morning ride on the beach.  Enjoy your holiday!

Patriotic Primping

It’s fun to don your country’s colors, but we’d rather not look like a cross between Wonder Woman and Evel Knievel.  Have always loved this shoot from Vogue 2008.  The union jack just seems to have a bit of rocker appeal.  Makes me want to break out my sewing machine and rock out with the stars and bars!.

Grilling and Chilling

Fourth of July is a pretty casual holiday and with any luck you’ll be enjoying it with friends, neighbors, kids, pets, etc.  So while you’re running back and forth from the grill to the kitchen with stops to the pool or beach don’t forget to relax.  Stick this flow chart to the fridge and help everyone remember not to be too fussy.

Make A Run(ner) For It

You may think a stair runner is fusty (that’s right, I used fusty) or formal or antiquated, but we’d like the following images to tread on that notion.

This eclectic mix of rugs pieced together is a studio fav for the week.

.

Stairs are an architectural element we often overlook but they have so much potential.  Vertical stripes are a great way to emphasize stairs .  Love the neutral ground and one judicious gesture of dynamic color.

.

For the more color shy.  This single vertical strip serves to emphasize height and the sculptural quality of your stairs as well.

.
Horizontal stripes de-emphasize the height of the stairs to create a more intimate feel.

.

Or for a real twist, try the anti-runner.  Paint out the stairs and leave the strip where a runner would be natural.

A Bold Brush

One of our newest clients just bought a lovely old home with a patchwork of new and original flooring on the first floor.  The re-model will completely open up the spaces to each other, consequently exposing this mixed mash of old and new.  And while we must admit we are constantly going on about “the mix”, we seem to have found one of the few instances where the mix is so not working.  Our Solution to unify the variety of old and new wood flooring?  PAINT IT!  So while we’re on the subject of painted floors here are some more ideas to inspire.I know we’ve used this image before, but we can’t help it.  So much is right with this space.
On the opposite end of the spectrum these more graphic paint jobs get us excited too.

Great pattern and inspired color for a small space like a vestibule or powder room.

Smoothing the Modern Edge

A great way we soften all those shiny and/or hard surfaces is to add a touch of softness and texture.

One of our signature PRINCIPES or principles…

Telephone, Text, and Email  (but send a lovely letter once in a while)

Loving these artfully hand letterpressed cards from Sideshow Press.  Great with a gift or as one.

We’re Back!

So we’ve been away from our digital baby for a while, one reason Kathryn has been tending to her real baby!  Meet little Cooper.

And as the seasons have changed so has business.  We are busier than ever.  As well as completing a number of projects, we’re currently working with clients in Manhattan , Charlotte, Raleigh, Minneapolis, and hosting our EXterieur event.

Our Summer resolution – have fun of course!  To kick off Summer we thought a post with less words and more play was in order.  So scroll on for some tear sheets we think sing of Summer fun.

March is a month known for stark contrast between harsh winter weather at the start and mild spring days towards its close.  On that note, we are taking a cue from this most contrasting of months to focus on that most valuable tool of the design trade-CONTRAST or as we like to call it in the studio “The Mix”.

A Moody Mix Makes for Layers Worthy of Praise

A peek inside the home of the creative director for Jayson Home and Garden reveals a collection truly using contrast and the mix in all the right ways.  Lisa Sherry Interieurs uses the same principles of high and low, new and vintage/antique, textured and sleek to build layers and interest within a space.  Not only do we build these collections for our clients, we work hard to maintain a collection of pieces available at our online boutique to help you achieve the mix.

With every project there are always pieces the homeowner has collected and knows they want to keep.  But when you are just beginning a design and cultivating a collected look there are key pieces in every room that a designer can start you with to head you in the right direction for a life-time of collecting.

Happy Alone

It’s official.  We are so over the winter weather, but here’s a way to use the weather to your advantage.  Take an off-season jaunt to the coast.  The beaches are quiet and you’ll feel like you’re exploring another planet.  Of course off-season can save money blah blah economy blah blah, but more importantly, when else would your hair look this fabulous at the coast?
