Sophisticated Curio

One of the rare LSI sanctioned uses for a curio cabinet.  Makes us want to re-decorate our dressing rooms this weekend!

Putting the ‘O’ in First Lady Fashion

Not since Jackie have we seen such admirable style in a first lady. A bit judgie we know, but you know it’s true. We thought a nod to first lady fashion was in order since president’s day is right around the corner (we have our patriotic bunting at the ready). But may we digress? We are really excited about Jason Wu’s launch for Target, which was yesterday. Wu designed that fab inaugural dress for Obama and after scouting the look book for Target we are on board.

Obama inauguration day and that night.  Just perfection.

A preview of the looks launched at Target from Jason Wu.  Get in line as they will only be available through March.  Presumably trying to re-create that Missoni madness?

If you are feeling a bit more flush may we offer up our pics from the main collection?

Currently Captivated By: The Illustrations of Jean Philippe Delhomme

A little bit social commentary, a little bit travelogue, but mostly a visual diary of the life of this fashion and art world insider, the art of Jean Philippe Delhomme is adding to the resurgence of watercolor imagery that is popping up everywhere. We appreciate the speedy impermanence of watercolor- gestural in quality, his illustration style contrasts with the somewhat self-important nature of his subjects- Delhomme himself has remarked on the world of excess he frequents- models, art giants, heavy hitters in the fashion industry (see below!) & rock n roll celebs make regular appearances on his blog and in his art.

Lacroix- this one in particular, we appreciate for the subject matter but also, the color!

While his blog is maybe a more casual portfolio of his work, his website offers more of his professional work. Check that out here.

That’s where you’ll find LSI in the latest “Small Spaces” Issue of Rue Magazine.

Our live/work loft in Charlotte certainly fits the bill for small, but we made sure not to scrimp on style.

Reference was made to our tiny terrace, but no photo to show… so we thought we’d let you see:

All photos were taken by Ron Royals. Big Thanks to the ladies at Rue for featuring us!

A Sophosticated Stop- Decade

Italian & French antiques mingle with Mid-century pottery, burled wood, marble, chrome & glass. It’s a curated shop of one-of-a-kinds with a taste level that rivals any New York or Los Angeles boutique. Ladies & Gents, make a visit to Decade in Charlotte, North Carolina.

We had been looking for a great piece of art for the show house, and owner Kristin Darnell graciously to loaned us this painting for the duration of the show. It will be hard to give this one back, and may have to come home with one of the team or a client…

Back in the gallery, new artworks and objects appear every time we visit. If you are looking for that rare “something” that makes a room stand out or feel unique & luxe, we recommend you visit their collection.

The pic below does not show just how large this quartz specimen is. We wanted to snap this up, too…

Decade is a place to seek out the unusual object…

and a beautiful array of inlay boxes, marble trays and collectible pottery.

Stay up on their finds here.

This is not a sponsored post, all opinions are our own.

Want to be a part of it? Window display in New York

We took a quick trip up to NYC last week and brought back some window inspiration.

And reptiles:

And taxidermy. Oh. My.

Notes on Italy & the Blue Hour

Beautiful photography by Brian W. Ferry, from his “Notes on Italy” photo diary. We can’t be there in person but we’ll let his pics transport us and remind us of visits in years past. Hope you all find a way to take a mental trip this weekend!

We had a hard time picking our favorites, so go to his blog “the blue hour” & see more of his work- there are eight installments of Italy alone! Happy Travels!

Color Wars- Which Side Are You On?

We’ve noticed something.

Are you seeing it?

There’s this color story that’s so prevalent right now. Maybe it’s Summer approaching, but everything is white walls with lots of blue, red, greens & a little bit of yellow. We’re not criticizing. It’s this global/rattan/beach/suzani/ginger jar/fiddle leaf fig thing. Ok, so we’re a little tired of the figs (yes, we have one in the studio). And we have that Ralph Lauren woven coffee table, too. So see, it’s not that we don’t like the look. Let’s look at Sig’s place again- what’s not to love? The styling of that gate leg table alone is worth a good study.

There’s nothing wrong with blue & white. We’ve done it before, and we’ll do it again- it’s classic. But right now we’re fixated on pastels. Maybe it was this home that sparked the change. Or maybe it was this Paris apartment, designed by Baroness Bruno de Pampelonne, seen in Vogue Living Australia:

Lavender, citron, icy blues, black & mousey neutrals… these colors suggest a different kind of glamour, a different “feel” for a space.

We are also digging this more accessible palette in the recent Serena & Lily catalogue. Sherbet style tones meet khaki, camel, linen & “off-metallics” (ie, not silver & gold). Their new rugs are really cute, too.

Another color on our radar? Opal-Mint-Jade. LOVE these loungey sofas from Elle Decoration:

and this Jay Jeffers room from the Elle Decor Showhouse that we snagged here:

So where are you all falling in the color spectrum these days? We’d love links to your recent favorites!

All the rage- we’re ready for more red.

As much as we love all of the pastels and jewel tones we’ve been posting lately, there’s a classic that’s made a comeback. With black and white, it always works. Throw a little red in the mix this Spring!

Spotted- Glass Disc Chandeliers

Open for discussion… do we like this trend? Seen recently in the new Rue Magazine, the glass disc sconces stand out as an elegant counterpoint in the eclectic apartment they reside in. Vintage Mazzega from the 60s is colorful/modern. And 1stdibs has an amazingly varied selection of Vistosi (seen bottom right). So do we like?

Or are we more likely to go bubble? You can’t deny the beauty of Ochre’s bespoke lighting:

Speaking of bubble, seen on decorpad:

Which way would you go?
