Home tour: Lisa Sherry brings her signataure interior design style to a move-in-ready Florida retreat.
MAY 7, 2025 | CHARLOTTE, NC
Bostonians and Floridians—never the twain shall meet? In life and design, I love interesting juxtapositions, so when a Boston-based professional woman with three young-adult daughters asked me to design her Wellington, Florida, getaway, I was intrigued – and thrilled – to say yes.
A successful businesswoman, my client had a clear, high-level vision for her second home: a fully finished getaway, move-in ready from day one. After an easy two-hour flight from Boston, she wanted to “come home” to Wellington and feel instantly at ease. A place that reflected her taste and interests, where she and her daughters could come and go, entertain, relax, and enjoy a shared passion for horses. Elegant but never fussy. Open to nature. Effortless, but layered with style.
Easy does it.
Wellington is steeped in horse culture, but this home doesn’t wear equestrian references on its sleeve. Instead, I introduced quiet gestures to the local vernacular. One of my favorite moments? A pillow with saddle-like leather stitching and a hint of brass ornamentation. A subtle salute to the setting. The result is a feeling, not a motif.
As an interior designer, I appreciate a strong sense of place and history, but I don’t do theme homes. I like to tap into more imaginative expressions. Subtle grace notes over literal translation. Expected equestrian style is clubby and masculine, with plaids and boots, buckles and busts. This home plays beautifully against type. It’s modern, feminine, and completely grounded in my client’s story.
Art Speaks.
For me, curating art is one of the most intimate parts of any interior design project. It’s never just about filling walls—it’s about reflecting the spirit of the homeowner. At Lisa Sherry Interieurs, that’s always the goal: to create spaces that tell personal stories.
In Wellington, my client and I worked closely to select original pieces that reflect her passions, history, and point of view. Nothing decorative for decoration’s sake. Every piece brings something to the party.
The art in this home leans bold—bright color, expressive form, a playful wink. To support it, I kept the background quiet and calm: soft neutrals, organic textures, and just enough restraint to let the artwork shine. The effect is a little unexpected, always joyful—and unmistakably her.
Blurring the Lines.
A counterpoint to my client’s primary home in Boston, this Florida getaway opens wide to the outdoors—literally. The doors fold back for a seamless indoor/outdoor transition. The pool, patio, and open-air living and dining areas are fully integrated with the interior design. I’ve always believed in creative collaborations—with clients, of course, and also with Mother Nature.
This is a house made for barefoot entertaining. For ease. For long dinners, early-morning coffee, and time that’s allowed to unfold without hurry. You feel it in the way the light moves through the space. Everything feels just right—but never too precious or contrived.
Making Space for Details.
I love rooms that reveal themselves, layer by layer. I’m told Lisa Sherry Interieurs homes always make a strong first impression—there’s something to be said for love at first sight—but it’s the day-in, day-out experience of a space that truly elevates living.
I do have a few favorite details in this project. I very intentionally specified wallpaper in what some might call secondary rooms—like the powder room and dressing room. It’s a jewel-box touch, like the fine lining of a well-made jacket. The chandelier in the living room rivals starlight. And outside, the swing chair channels a little '60s grooviness—a most coveted seat in the house.
The Art of the Escape.
Designing this home was about helping one woman and her daughters step into a new—but familiar—rhythm. My client wanted to decamp from Boston, touch down in Wellington, exhale, and settle in without skipping a beat. No unpacking required. Everything the family needed—emotionally and practically—would already be in place, ready for living.
That’s the beauty of a well-designed second home, Lisa Sherry Interieurs style. It doesn’t just shelter you—it tells your story. Whether it’s in horse country, the mountains, seaside, or an urban pied-à-terre, the best second homes let you live differently… but never feel like a stranger or a tourist.
To live beautiful is to be at home in the world.

My client and her daughters love their Wellington retreat. Reflecting on the project and revisiting the images, I’m reminded how beautifully it all came together. And the final high note? This luxurious home is featured in the latest edition of Vivant—a magazine that celebrates interiors, yes, but also art, culture, travel, and the joy of living well. Thank you to the editors for the lovely nod.
