BEFORE & AFTER: A MOUNTAIN MAKEOVER HOME TOUR

SEE HOW DESIGNER LISA SHERRY FEARLESSLY TRANSFORMS A DATED LOG-CABIN ESTATE INTO A MODERN MASTERPIECE IN TODAY'S HOME TOUR.

THE LODGE-LOOK GETS A REFRESH

Timber! What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think of a rustic lodge-look mountain home? Wood beams aplenty, heavy and dark. So, in a way, my client’s spacious 4,700-square foot log-cabin lakefront home in the mountains of North Carolina did not disappoint!

Happily, the homeowners came to Lisa Sherry Interieurs for a makeover – it’s what I do. The challenge: Reinvent this traditional masculine space as a clean, modern getaway for an active family and their lucky guests. See the before-and-after home tour now!

PAINT IS OFTEN THE PERFECT PROBLEM SOLVER

While dated and quite traditional, the mountain retreat had great bones and lots of potential. I recommended an aggressive makeover renovation strategy to bring the original 2014 build into the present. Throughout, we introduced the dark beamed backgrounds to refreshing coats of white paint – Benjamin Moore’s Natural Linen. The renovation also included the addition of new square footage. Ironically, because of floor plan inefficiencies and the oppressive color palette, the nearly 5,000-square foot home felt cramped!

AWKWARD KITCHEN MAKEOVER

To begin the makeover, I opened up the first floor of the home, gutting nearly the entire space. A professional basketball player built the original home. As a result, the scale of the kitchen, for example, was perfect for a seven-foot man, but not my clients.

LSI also reimagined the first-floor primary suite, once again removing walls, and specifying amazing tile, stone, flooring in the spa-like bathroom. Bathed in white and open to amazing natural views, the bedroom is a masterpiece.

COMPANY'S COMING

Upstairs, my team and I renovated two guest bedrooms, a bath and a cozy home office. With panoramic views of the forest, the second-floor experience is akin to living in a tree house! Overnight visitors may also camp out (in style) in a complete lower level suite, including living area, bedroom and kitchenette. An adjacent guest house offers even more privacy and respite. The before-and-after pictures tell the tale.

EXTERIOR SPACES

This mountain home truly is one with nature. And that includes abundant exterior spaces that seem to fold into the flora and fauna of the surrounding fores. Spacious porches and decks beckon year round. A winding path leads down to a dock, also reimagined and outfitted by Lisa Sherry Interieurs, and pristine lake.

LIVE BEAUTIFUL

For me, interior design is all about transformation, reinventing spaces to elevate the everyday. “Live beautiful” is always the gentle imperative. While that sounds like alchemy – and yes, there IS a bit of magic involved – there’s also a lot of planning, work and heavy lifting. This mountain makeover was completed in a 16-month period. Today, it is so satisfying to think of my clients opening the house for the spring and summer season. Good times are simply inevitable!
